West Coast Vulnerable

Grant Bay, near Winter Harbour on the north west coast of Vancouver Island from a trip in June, 2022
20 inches by 40 inches wide

I was born and raised on the coast of Vancouver Island and miss being near the ocean at our home near Oliver, BC. On this trip, during a brief afternoon visit, I collected a bag of plastic from the beach and dumped it into an overfull huge bin to the right of the pathway in the collage, as did others in our family visit. This beach looks pristine but it is suffering from this load of human created detritus. We need to be better caretakers of our lands and waters, and air, (as the wildfires rage this summer). This year, members of my family gained our First Nations status cards under Bill S-3, (passed Dec, 2020, eliminating the last of the sex-related discriminations in the Indian Act), and recognizing our place as part of the lands, part of the waters in this complex, interconnected world.
